Jon Bakija Bio, Myths About Government Roundtable
Jon Bakija is a Professor of Economics at Williams College, where he has taught since 1999. His recent empirical research investigated the effect of tax policy on charitable giving, the causes of rising income inequality in the U.S., and the effects of state taxes on the migration decisions of the wealthy. He has also worked at the Brookings Institution (2002-2003), at the Congressional Budget Office (2003-2004), as a technical staff member of the President’s Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform (2005), and as a Visiting Associate Professor at Cornell Law School (2007- 2008). He is the co-author of Taxing Ourselves: A Citizen’s Guide to the Debate over Taxes (2008) and the book Retooling Social Security for the 21st Century (1994).
