New CEO to lead Roosevelt Institute
The ideals of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt are directly applicable to the problems society faces today, especially the economic inequality, says Felicia Wong, the new president and CEO of the Roosevelt Institute.
“The Roosevelt legacy could not be more important given everything we face in the world today,” she said. “What does a New Deal look like today for the 21st century? What does a social contract look like?”
Wong, 45, will assume the leadership post on a full-time basis in March. She comes from the Democracy Alliance, which is made up of progressive investors/donors and movement leaders committed to a stronger democracy and more progressive America.
She has overseen the development of the Alliance’s strategic investment portfolio.
The Roosevelt Institute board noted her expertise on the ways that nonprofit organizations can create lasting social change.
“Felicia’s talents, energy, and experience make her the ideal person to lead our work forward, both in celebrating the legacy of my grandparents, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and in reinvigorating their values in contemporary public debate,” said Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, chairwoman of the Institute board.
The Roosevelt Institute is dedicated to carrying forward the legacy and values of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. It has expanded in the last three years while continuing to be the nonprofit partner of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park.
Wong, who holds a doctorate degree in political science from the University of California at Berkeley, said she hopes to continue expanding the Institute’s presence on college campuses in engaging students in discussing progressive values. Its current network connects more than 10,000 students on more than 100 campuses.
