Akshay creates music history

Akshay Kumar is flying, despite being a part of a debacle like Tashan and why not? He was the only saving grace in the film and audiences just about tolerated the stone age script thanks to his performance in the film. But that’s not all. The music for his latest film Singh is Kinng, directed by Anees Bazmi, has sold for a record 13.5 crore, the highest ever for an Indian film to date.

Unbelievable, but true. Producer Vipul Shah has made history, which is music to his ears, quite literally. So, how did such a cracker of a monetary deal come about? "It’s not that my bargaining skills are better than anyone else in the business. It’s just that the Indian music industry can afford such numbers and I am the first to actually enjoy them. I believe that the buyer always knows better than the seller. This music deal is an acknowledgement of Akshay’s status as a superstar, which has taken years, but it’s finally happened. And I am thrilled," says Vipul.

But he’s not completely happy with the deal. "We have the potential to crunch even better numbers. In retrospect, I feel I undersold the music rights since I sold them only for a seven-year period," he rues. Singh is Kinng’s music releases in June whereas the film that has an ensemble cast like Katrina Kaif, Sonu Sood, Ranvir Shorey and Neha Dhupia releases on August 8.
